This is a photo of the BNSF Rail Yard in Northeast Minneapolis taken from the St. Anthony Parkway bridge (between University Avenue and Marshall Street). The bridge itself is a steel truss bridge that was very common in the area at the turn of the 20th century (slated for reconstruction real soon).
Probably the most interesting feature of the bridge is the generous walkway on south side of the bridge that has become a popular site for train enthusiasts to observe the activities below. A Northeast old-timer told me that this is one of the most popular sites for train enthusiasts in the Midwest. Close to 10,000 people come to the bridge to view the trains throughout the year, which would make it one of the most popular public sites in Northeast Minneapolis.
